My son dropped his new iphone 7 not once but twice to be sure it was dead. First time it only suffered a few cracks, still working fine. Next time, screen went off. Could still use it with Siri.

Couple weeks later, it didnt respond anymore. Doesnt show up on itunes when conncected to the PC. No vibrations, no sound. One would think it would be really dead then, but when I charge it, the home button starts klicking when I touch it. That is the only sign it is alive. Strange problem isnt it? I would like to extract the data that is on it, is all. Any suggestions?

At this point, you have a logic board failure. At the very least, the display/backlight subsystem is damaged. However, if the phone is not recognized by iTunes, then there are other issues to deal with. As you say, the phone is not completely dead because the haptic feedback is present. Your only real option is to have this phone looked at by an experienced micro-solderer. The phone may be repairable or at the very least, the data recoverable.
