Hey Guys, Just had a quick question regarding charging on an Iphone 6. A customer brought in an Iphone 6 that would not charge, we tried a few different charging ports and the device would still not charge. When powered off, charging cable can be plugged into the phone and will boot. When plugged in the device displays a message saying please use apple charger, but the charger we were using is a Apple charger. She was using an off brand charger at one point. Anybody have any experience with this issue? Thank you in advance!

“She was using an off brand charger” There’s your issue right there. She has damaged the U2 IC chip, the message asking you to use a genuine charger (even if you are) is one symptom of it, more severe symptoms are:

  • Overheating
  • Fast battery drain (even in airplane mode)
  • Fake charging (shows charging symbol, but percentage usually goes down)
  • Phone charges when on, but if left to die, will not charge, but is able to come back on with a charged battery The only fix for this is to replace the U2 IC chip.

Have you tried another battery? I have seen iPhone 6 batteries dying at a quicker rate than any other iPhone model.
