I had a customer bring her granddaughters iPad 5 LTE in for a screen replacement. When I took the screen off I noticed a screw was missing that holds the LCD in place. I called the customer back before I went any farther and asked if someone tried to replace the screen. The customer told me that they took it to another place and since then the home button was not working correctly. I told her that the reason I asked is because there was a screw missing and wanted her to know this before I went any farther. I continued to replace the screen and also noticed 2 of the screws that held the plate on that covers the connections were stripped and were just sitting in the holes. I went ahead and replaced the screen and had everything working just fine. The customer had it for about 3 weeks when her granddaughter dropped it again, cracking the screen. She brought it back and I replaced the screen again, however the difference is that I ordered the screen from a different place only because she also wanted a screen protector, and the place I normally order from did not have any in stock. So to save the customer money I ordered from the other place. I replaced the screen and now the most of the touch works, I can touch any icon and it will open with the exceptions on the ones in the dock. Also when I try to type on it such as in notes or entering the wifi password it will not respond, none of the letters will type. I have tried to pressing with different amounts of amount of pressure yet it did not seem to make a difference. If I tried to just type random letters as in not making words just typing with 4 fingers such as “;pihidhihibibihbguibfaiusbfi” it might type 1 or 2 letters. I have changed several iPad screens and have never seen this issue. Could this be cause by a bad screen? Has anyone else seen this issue? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a defective digitizer. I am assuming you don’t have another in stock. If that’s the case, you’ll need to order one. Without knowing who your suppliers are, I can only speculate about relative quality levels. iFixit, MobileSentrix, InjuredGadgets are good suppliers (amongst the big boys) but I’m sure there are great “smaller” suppliers as well. The biggest issue with iDevice repairs is parts quality; it can drive you insane. Once you find a few good suppliers, you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches.
