How do you install OS X on a new hard drive? I’ve tried holding down the “C” key, nothing happens except the B&W apple screen with a spinning circle. When holding down the"option" key a window comes up showing me the OS disc, a reload arrow and a continue arrow. When I click on the disc, nothing happens, but when I click on the continue arrow, it goes back to the B&W apple screen with the spinning circle. I am using disc 1 which I take is the restore dics. All I get is the spinning thinking circle. With a new HDD, would a firmware password still be enabled? If so, what is the process to get the OS onto this new HDD?

If the machine will not boot holding the “C” down with the install disk in then something else is wrong. Why did you replace the hard drive? What was it doing before the hard drive replacement? What kind of hard drive is the new one and where did you get it? Where did the install disks come from ? What color are the install disks? Is there a part number on the install disks?

Insert the restore disk that came with your computer and it should boot up using the cd. you will have to format the harddrive but then you will be able to install the os

Looking at the new info about the old drive being replaced because of a password problem I wonder if the OP isn’t correct about this being a firmware password problem. If that’s the case you will have to take it to Apple for repair as I don’t believe we want to attempt bypassing that kind of password. I recommend you make an appointment with the nearest Genius bar for a checkout. Ralph
