Chosen Solution

Hello. I inherited an iMac (27-in mid-2011) this year. The previous owner had removed all their files and reinstalled all the latest iOS etc. We were able to get it started after I picked it up over a month ago. I had left it on and plugged in for a couple of weeks and then last weekend I realized it had gone 100% dark. It has been like that ever since. Have tried different outlets. Tried plugging and unplugging back of machine. Tried removing accessories (just keyboard). I replaced the old power cord with brand new one, but still no life. I’m a newbie in DIY repairs but I guess I’d like opinions on whether to return to Apple Store for scrap, or if it is worth troubleshooting via some IFIXIT solution (and if so what would you try first?). Thanks for any input!

If you can carefully remove the display iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Display Replacement you should be able to see the onboard diagnostic LED’s Which are just below and to the right of the HD on the main logic board

Do any of the LED’s light up? If not and your sure the power cord is good and plugged into a good outlet then the power supply needs replacing. Here’s the guide you’ll ned to follow to take it out: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Power Supply Replacement and here’s the needed part: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309, 2374, 2390 or 2429 Power Supply. The tricky part is not damaging the display cables when you take the display off.

Just to clarify…. when you pressing power button, it makes no noise, sounds ?
