Hi there, I’m new to the Mac platform. I’ve been using one for 1-2 months and now I have a problem with my iMac 27" late 2009, Procesor 28 GHz Core i7. For few days I made an Update for OS and after that it start /boot not in normal mode. I can use it only in Safe Mode with key “Shift” at start up. What happened and how to fix it?
Sounds like you are having GPU issues, a known problem on this model. When you try to boot is it hanging at about 55% of the load bar progress? Hook up an external monitor and see if you get the same type of artifacts on its screen.
SOLVED… for me at least. My iMac won’t get past the half way mark in normal mode either… Well the frustration reached a point that I didn’t care if I scrapped the whole machine. So I dismantled it and got at the graphics card out I then took the graphics card apart and baked in the oven (according to a youtube video, at 200 Celsius for like ten minutes. I then took a heat gun (not a blow dryer) and heated the main chip directly till it reached temp. I put new heat sink paste on and re-assembled it to my amazement it started completely… . So it was the graphics card! At least for me.
