Our iMac G4’s screen has gone black, no illumination at all. It has been our entertainment center since we upgraded to MacBook Pro a year ago. It has very little information aside from iTunes music collection. Such a great unit to watch DVDs and hook up to our sound system! Help! Is there any way to get it working again? Willing to tinker, Tina

Hook it up to your MacBook via a firewire cable. Boot into Target Mode by holding the “T” key down on the iMac. The hard drive icon should come up on the MacBook. Go to Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility and see if you can repair the disk. Get back to us with the results and wecan go from there. If the hard drive is OK, hook it up to an external monitor to isolate the problem. Also take a flashlight and hold it at an anglr to the screen and see if you can see the desktop.
