The original 5s battery cable connector at the end of the flat portion of the cable is shaped into a U. The flat cable from the battery is attached to the right-hand stem of the U at the top end of the U. The original connector that plugs into the phone extents outward from the top end of the left stem of the U at a 90 degree angle which allows it to be connected to the phone’s socket. The replacement battery connector at the end of the flat cable has gentle curve to it without any bends like the original battery. In order to fit between the battery’s body and the phone’s circuit board and be able to reach the phone’s connector the connector’s cable must be bent to the same shape as the original. Question 1. is this the way all 5s replacement batteries are shipped from ifixit or is this an error? Question 2. if the cable as shipped is correct, what is the recommended method for bending it into the correct shape as the cable is both stiff and delicate.

If you take a look at the pictures here, you’ll note that the flex connector is pretty flat. The trick is to connect the battery to the logic board and then create the U shape as need by the gap between the battery and the board.

Almost all replacement batteries are DIY-U. I plug it in to the battery connector, then dry fit the battery without adhesive and then press the cable into shape so that it fits between the board and battery. The flex has wires in it, so be gentle, but it will need to be bent to stay in place and be robust.
