I may know the answer but I haven’t given up, geeks can repair it all. What I really want to recover from my iPad is my photos, lots of photos of my son and from trips with him. I’ve already lost enough of those over the years because of broken down devices… So my iPad Mini was plugged to an USB extension, it started to fail, my guess is it was a power surge and in the blink of an eye the iPad shut down, no burnt smell or anything but I couldn’t make it work after that. Is there anything I can do? Btw, yes, I have a backup… but I password protected it and can’t remember what it was. Effed up in every way…

Generally speaking, your device and data should be recoverable. A cheap , dollar store, charger can cause the charging circuit on the logic board to fail (usually the Tristar IC). This is usually fixable but it does require that someone with the proper tools and experience in micro-soldering do the work…it’s not a DIY repair. There could be other damage as well but once again, an experienced micro-solderer should be able to properly troubleshoot this.
