Chosen Solution

Hi there, I just saw this post and I have a 5k retina computer with ONE SSD. I wanted to upgrade the SSD and bought at 2T V-Nand SSD 860 EVO. i just realized this won’t replace the existing SSD.   Capacity: 500.07 GB (500,068,036,608 bytes)   Volume UUID: C5E17D8F-8F05-425C-91BF-D47946826BF6   Physical Drive:   Device Name: APPLE SSD SM0512F   Medium Type: SSD   Protocol: PCI Question:

  1. is there a Fusion cable that came with this that I can plug my NAND SSD into?
  2. is there a cable or adapter I can buy on ifixit or somewhere to get this 2T drive in there?
  3. should I try and sell this NAND 2T and get a proper SSD, if so what do I get. thank you!!!! -Mike

So. This sounds like you have the proprietary Apple SSD. Which is perfect, means you can add the 860 EVO you bought to your existing setup and you’ll get more storage than you thought you were going to get! Only thing is, your iMac wouldn’t have come with the cable necessary to connect a 2.5" SSD. So you would need that. iFixit does sell them, and they are standard for any 27" iMac made between 2013 and 2020. You will probably also need a thermal sensor adapter since you’re not installing an OEM Apple drive. I might also look into the upgrade kits which include this, plus all the tools you might need and can be purchased without the SSD, since you already have one. iMac Intel 27" 5K (Late 2014-Mid 2015) Hard Drive Cable iMac Intel 27" (Late 2012-2019) SSD Upgrade Kit
