I was supposed to remove the entire black ribbon at the top in one piece, but I accidentally tore this part off. As you can see, there are small copper pads that must transmit some data.
Flex cables in general are quite hard to fix. From the looks of the pictured tear, this particular flex seems well beyond repair, it needs to be replaced.
