I keep getting a popup message that I have 4 viruses and that I must immediately install applock from Google play. Is this for real?

That is not a real message. How would a phone know that it has a virus without first having a virus detection software installed in the first place? Install a legitimate anti-virus software like AVG, Avast, COMODO, or TrendMicro.

It isn’t real. They just want you to get their app.
