Hello, I have a “Macbook Pro 2016” and a “Huawei Mate 9” phone. My Macbook can create 5GHz networks without any issues, and my Mate 9 can connect to them just fine, but not vise versa! So I cannot connect to Phone-created 5GHz Hotspot with the Macbook. These are the only 5GHz devices I have, and where I am right now, I don’t have any access to the customer support. Installed “WiFi Explorer” on Macbook and “PingTools Pro” wifi analyzer on the Phone. WiFi Explorer does not show any 5GHz signal at all. Is there any way, I can diagnose the issue here? any help is appreciated.
So to be sure I understand things you can access your MacBook from the Huawei Mate 9 phone via WiFi just not the other way. With your Mac you created your own peer to peer AP an was able to get the Huawei Mate 9 to connect to your Mac and internet connection it offered. Within the Huawei Mate 9 you would need to do the same if you wanted to leverage it as a WiFi hotspot. The Mac’s P-to-P AP is not needed here only the Huawei Mate 9’s P-to- P AP and then you would need to enable the routing function within the phone to use the cellular connection. Looking at the user manual here: Huawei Mate 9 User Guide jump to the bottom of page 60 it talks about setting up a mobile hotspot. Did you follow the instructions? Make sure to setup a secured network using WPA2. Alter your phones name and use it with the password you created on the Phone’s hotspot settings on your Mac to connect to the phones AP. That should do it.
