i think my power button flex is broken or something, what should i do?
Hi @ramonb, Is the tablet’s charging indicator light red, orange or green when you connect the charger to the tablet’s USB port? If it is red or orange allow the tablet to fully charge (light turns green) and then try to turn on the tablet with the charger still connected. If it turns on with the charger connected, the battery may be failing and will need to be replaced. Here’s the ifixit Sony Xperia Tablet Z Battery Replacement guide which may help. Replacement batteries are available online. The example is only to show what it looks like and how much it may cost. There are other suppliers that may suit you better. Just search for Sony Xperia Tablet Z battery to get results for suppliers that suit you. If the charging indicator light does not turn on at all when the charger is connected, using a different compatible USB cable, connect the tablet to a working USB port on a computer and check if it starts to charge. If the charge light turns on when the tablet is connected to a computer then the charger or the charger’s USB cable is faulty and needs to be replaced. Allow the battery to fully charge before attempting to turn on the tablet. A computer’s USB port will charge the battery more slowly than the charger as it only supplies 0.5A as opposed to the charger’s 1.5A, but it will still charge the battery, especially if the tablet is not turned on If the charging indicator light does not turn on at all when the tablet is connected to a computer, then perhaps the power button is not the problem but it may be that the battery may be fully discharged due to a faulty micro USB port. Use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the tablet’s micro USB port enclosure to make sure that the is no lint stuck in the port preventing a good electrical connection and that all the pins are there and that they are all straight and parallel with each other and not bent, broken or missing. If there is any debris stuck in the port do not use a metal pin or probe to try and get it out as it may damage the pins or cause electrical problems in the tablet, use a vacuum cleaner instead to try and suck it out. If it won’t come out then use a sharpened wooden toothpick to gently prise it out. If the USB port enclosure appears to be OK, then the tablet will have to be opened and the USB port tested to make sure that it is OK. If the USB port tests OK, then there is a motherboard problem If the charging light turns on and is green but the tablet doesn’t turn on then as you say it may be a power button problem.
