Hi guys, for more than a year now I have this weird humming noise coming from my laptop. The sound is only heard when the laptop is in use. When I close it or shut it down it stops. I tried to clean the fans from dust, but (after 6 years of use) there was hardly any to clean. Strangely when I bend the body of the laptop, the noise goes away for a short time. Sometimes the bending trick only reduces how loud the noise is. It sure does sound like the fans are scrubbing against their case, but it might be something else. When I put the laptop under heavy load (gaming, you tube, etc) the sound is not influenced. The noise of higher spinning fans is heard of course additionally to the humming. I made a video so you can get a better idea of whats happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf4X7pwc…
I’d remove the fans and check the fans vents first. Are you getting a lot of beach balls?
I would recommend you install a thermal monitoring app like this one: TG Pro so you can see whats happening with your systems temp and it’s fans. I suspect one of the fan bearings is giving out. You should be able to figure out which one is failing by looking at the tachometer levels.
Remove the bottom case and check the fan. It could be just clogged with dust. Clean it thoroughly and try it.
