Chosen Solution
When I open my laptop (HP Pavilion dv4) and power on, the screen stays black. When I partially close the lid, I can see the start up screen running fine. If I reopen the screen, the screen goes black again. Does anyone know what caused this and how I can get it repaired?
The most likely cause of your problem is a loose, pinched or broken cable between the motherboard and the LCD. I am including a link to a generic Pavilion but it should be close enough to guide you through teardown and repair.
