Picked up a cheap Elitebook, turns out it was one of these beauties. Sadly mines got a horribly damaged top lid (someone took to it with a grinder I think) but doesn’t matter. As it’s really old and has had a long, useful life according to who I bought it off, I’d like to clean it out and replace the thermal paste. Anybody got a guide or tips on where to start?

Hi @thattonybo Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. Go to p.73 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the fan and heat sink assembly. This will allow you to refresh the thermal paste on the cpu , clean the fan etc.

Hi @thattonybo Welcome to ifixit To clean up thermal paste, normally i use IPA, to remove old thermal paste. For thermal paste, It is recommended to get good one, if possible, e.g. Arctic Silver 5 e.g CoolerMaster MasterGel Pro
