My settings says model# MA627C. Whic generation iPod Touch would this be?

Another good way of telling is by looking at the shape. If the iPod is flat with an aluminum bezel on the front, then you know it is a 1st generation model. If the shape is curved, it is either a 2nd or 3rd generation touch. A curvy 8 or 16GB model is always a 2nd gen device. If it is a 64GB, then it is a 3rd gen device. To differentiate between the two 32gb models, hold in the home button for a few seconds. If nothing happens, it’s a second generation model. If voice control pops up, you have a 3rd generation touch.

it should be a 16 gb first generation iPod touch (look at the bottom of the backside: model A1213)

You can also consult Apple’s Knowledge Base article “Identifying iPod models” if you need more information.

1st Gen doesn’t have external buttons.
