Chosen Solution

Hey, Usb-C port is not available on AppleTV 4k Edition. How is it possible to connect Appletv 4k to ituens ? I heared ,something about recovery/DFU mode over a WiFi connection I asked this question in Official Apple community Forum, but nobody answer. According to this link: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203028 If you see a yellow warning sign, while trying to update the software on your Apple TV 4K, contact Apple Support. Is there any secret approach? Best regards

hi - For anyone searching for an answer to this question - I just had the same problem and called apple support as instructed. They are arranging for the Apple TV to be collected and returned for repair. I asked if there was any way to restore myself and was told no. I said that I was concerned that if, for whatever reason, I needed to restore the Apple TV after it was out of warranty that it would cost me - they said that if it was due to a software update problem then there would be no charge - even out of warranty. I’m amazed that there is no way an owner can restore the box to factory settings - this seems like a really bad idea.

This happened to me yesterday, was watching a movie when the video froze and a few seconds later the TV rebooted. Was greeted with the exclamation symbol and a URL support.apple.com/appletv/restore. I tried the power cycling trick but that didn’t work. So booked a session at the Apple Store. The tech at the genius bar had some useful info. He said the restoration method now uses the Ethernet port. He confirmed the bootloader will try to redownload the OS via the Ethernet port. However he didn’t clarify if this was downloaded from the Internet or from the Apple Store’s LAN servers. He plugged a Cat6 cable into the GigE port, unplugged the power cord, counted to 15, then plugged the power back in while holding Menu + Home on the remote at the same time. Unfortunately that didn’t work either so he handed me a new ATV 4K. Luckily mine was still under warranty. But if anybody else has this happen out of warranty give the Ethernet method a try.

Only thing that worked for me was repeatedly plugging it in and then unplugging it. I would leave it plugged in until the service screen would appear, then I would unplug it. Repeated 5-6x and finally it just booted up normally, though it seems with all caches wiped (e.g. it had all the apps, but no content/images loaded). Also have seen some people say after 5-6x reboots it may bring up a diagnostic screen where you can restore the device to factory. I think Apple doesn’t post this as an official solution because its so “inelegant.” But it makes sense to have multiple restore options with the USB port removed!

I was reading some other articles. If you installed XCode, there is supposedly an option to link the Apple TV with Xcode 9, either wirelessly or via the Ethernet port. See this article for how to link Wirelessly.

apple can restore apple tv 4k without usb-c but this is a big secret .

I guess you’ll need call Apple and arrange a visit to an Apple Store.

Had the exact experience that Paul mentioned, am returning my box for update. Was told on the phone that my tvOS may not have been up to date as there apparently was something in a January update that would have allowed me to force the restore from the error screen. I mentioned that my settings are to automatically take updates so I was curious as to how I could have not gotten that.

When my new Apple 4K TV was stuck in the Reset or Restart loop and Genius bar AND Apple Teck support said it had to be replaced, and trying BOTH restart or reset failed…ALL I had to do was hold down my remote Menu & Home Screen button at the same time for about 5 or 6 seconds. My Apple 4K TV Box reset INSTANTLY and ALL my data returned!

When I asked Apple Support about this, they told me that the USB-C to HDMI cable could be restored.

You have to do a very specific button press. Step one: Do a soft reset by pressing and holding the menu and home button until the sleep menu comes up and continue to hold it starts to Reboot as soon as it starts to reboot Press and Hold the volume down and play and pause button and then it will bring up the recovery mode screen separate to the main interface . : Please be reassured this is run independently from and completely separate from the standard interface and when you recover it uses your Internet Which you have previously set up in the main interface just follow the prompts in recovery mode and you will be fine

There is a Lightening Bolt jack under a flap right above the RJ-45 prong slot in the jack on the back of the 4K. Notice how there’s an extra “dent” above the prong? But I have read that the 4K restores through iCloud. Which would be an Internet connection. That’s why I am here. Trying to find out if the 4K will restore itself without iTunes? Since there is no iTunes in Catalina…… Not that I’m using it.

I reset my apple tv 4k but blinking led light and I tried the methods described and I didn’t get an answer. It seems that the only solution is to return the device to Apple.
