I have an iPod Classic (160gb) and have had an issue with the charging port lately. I have it continuously plugged into my Kenwood radio in my car via an official Kenwood cable. Occasionally the iPod would lose it’s connection, and if I jiggled the cord, it would reconnect. Now, it won’t connect in my car at all. I tried 2 other cables with the same result. I brought the iPod in the house to play with it, and it won’t charge or anything via the port. I cleaned the connector with alcohol, and I blew it out with compressed air. No change. What happened?

VinylAddict, The charge port/dock connector may be faulty damaged. Look in the charge port for any bent pins and straighten very carefully with a tooth pick. If port is found to be bad/loose/damaged , this is really not a repair for the inexperienced because the charge port for your device is soldered to the mother board and the heat generated could cause further damage if not very careful. I will post a link to a tear down guide to get you inside the iPod to check the charge port and will also post a video link showing what is involved in repairing charge port attached to the board. The last link is possibly to a new charge port, which you can also do a search for better pricing perhaps if needed. If not wanting to do the repair yourself have a good computer/cell phone repair shop have a look and estimate repair. Good luck.
