The battery cover on Apple aluminum Wireless Keyboard is stuck? Any suggestions on how to open it? I have the same problem and would appreciate it if anyone has an answer as the above did not help. Thanks.
This will give you an idea of how it’s put together: Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1255) Teardown Just what seems to be the problem? Go here and identify which keyboard you have: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3903
Read the above stuff, and combined ideas. Got it to go with: Vinegar applied with a Q-tipHeat applied with a lighterA quarter in a vice grip (with the smallest amount possible proud of the grip to reduce bending), tapped into the slot with a rubber mallet, while keyboard is on opposite edge on a wood surface.Twisting force with quarter in slot while holding keyboard, both tighter and looser, back and forth. This process three times, then it unfroze.
Mine is stuck also. Corroded batteries inside leaked acid at cover and can’t get cove to unscrew.
I rigged up some clamps to hold down the keyboard to a heavy bench, then I imbedded a quarter in a piece of hardwood and pressed the quarter into the slot of the plug on the side of the keyboard - and held that in place with another long clamp that held the hardwood against the side of the keyboard (well there was a sliver of space) Then I cranked away at the hardwood, turning it… I had to use a hammer.
The net result, the quarter bent.
The simple secret is to heat the area surrounding the screw in plug with the slot in it. I did this by carefully pouring boiled water over this area from an electric kettle. Obviously you need to ensure that you only heat up the screw in plug area and not get any water into any other area of the keyboard and damage the electronics. After heating the area simply unscrew with a coin. This worked first time and I removed the plug and then the corroded battery and then cleaned out the corroded area with no damage to the keyboard,
