After owning many Mac laptops, I must say the Retina display is VERY sensitive to scratches. I take good care of my stuff and I still wonder how it happened (never happened before). Anyway, I got two scratches (like tiny holes) on the display. I tried to buff one out and it did not help, since it made it glossy and the display is mate. I thought of using a resin, like the ones used to repair cracked glass on cars, but I would like to know if someone have used it before.

Car resin is made for car glass. You don’t scoop ice cream with a shovel just because it works as a scoop. Therefore, unless it is explicitly stated that the resin is safe to use with computer glass, don’t use it. I have now had three… THREE retina displays. The first time I had tiny cracks like pinhead cracks in a cluster in the middle of the screen. The second screen had a dead pixel. The third I cleaned today and noticed two small pinhead sized cracks again. I have no idea how this happened… I take very good care of this, especially since the first incident. Each time it was replaced by Apple Care but that has now expired. I have a THULE case and now I’m thinking that the only way to resolve this in future is to get a screen protector. How did everyone else’s happen?

I have a patch of small scratches at the top left of the display where my thumb touches when I open the top or adjust it. My previous Pro had a glass screen and never had a mark despite heavy useage.

I used to repair scratched CDs with car wax. The wax fills in the microscopic scratch marks and buff to a shine. Sometimes, I had to use a cotton-tipped applicator to rub the wax into the scratch so that it would be completely filled in. Visually, the scratches disappeared. And the previously unplayable scratched CD could at least be played long enough for me to make a copy. Car wax might work with laptop screens as well.

Man I have the same thing on my brand new 2019 MacBook Pro 16”, I am crying here it’s not even a month old and there is a small pinhead dent like a few pixels small… I have genius appointment and will see what they tell me.. I wish this happened within the 14 days so I could just have it returned without any questions lol

I reckon Apple is doing this on purpose; making the screens super fragile - since the retina hardware is basically future proof until the advent of quantum computing - I noticed after a year of use that even the keys created 100s of micro scratches from when the lid is closed…… UNREAL - Apple Care replaced it citing “problems with the display coating”; there were many other scratches too from when wiping the screen - just got it back and installed a Kuzy screen protector - it makes the screen matte and is fantastic, really like it and it reduces glare - it makes my retina pro feel like my 17 pro w matte - now I can clean the screen without destroying it within 2 months of having a new display - sorry guys but this is what happens with this new age mac products….. they have quality issues all around….

Have you tried using a little bit of Vaseline or toothpaste and rubbing it in the effected area? It helped me on my desktop monitor.
