The ‘hinge’ of the Imac is to weak to hold it’s own weight up so it only tilts down.
Apple had a bad run of hinges. Bring your system in to either an Apple Store or authorized service center to have it replaced under extended warranty (free repair). FYI: Apple will refund you for your iMac hinge repair costs
