I left my nano-to-micro sim adapter inside the sim slot of my OnePlus One. While trying to take the adapter out of the sim card slot, I have bent/damaged the sim card slot pins. Now my phone does not read the sim any more. How to repair the damaged sim card slot

Hi, I had the same problem. Buying a spare motherboard from OnePlus is said not possible by them. I tried to unsolder the sim card socket with a hot air solder station. Way too risky as there is too much little components around. Overheating them may result random behaviors afterwards. Moreover, there is 13+ solrdering points not accessible. The trick I used is to replace the damaged pins. Here the way to proceed - We are considering here you already took the motherboard out of the OnePlus One. 1/ Needed tools

  • Office adhesive tape
  • A Dremel with a diamond cutting disk
  • Tweezers
  • Clock repair magnifier
  • Soldering paste
  • Hot air soldering station
  • A spare sim card socket adapted to the OnePlus - got from Aliexpress 2/ Procedure
  • Apply adhesive tape all around the socket to prevent small metalic particles to go everywhere and cause short circuits
  • Use carefully the Dremel to open the sim socket - Image below. Pay attention to the ejection mechanism and let enough material on left and right edges.
  • Get the required golden pins from the spare sockets by cutting them
  • Remove adhesive tape
  • Apply a very small amount of soldering paste below the golden pins
  • Use the tweezers to place the spare golden pins on the original sim socket
  • The hot air soldering station set at 250°C, low air speed, will melt the soldering paste
  • Let everything cool down
  • Test that new pins are soldered with the tweezers
  • Adjust the heigth of the other golden pins with the new ones using the tweezers
  • You’re done - image below

How do I insert my SIM card? Please follow below steps to insert the SIM card into the One:

  1. Use the ejector tool that came with your OnePlus One to remove the SIM tray.
  2. Put the Micro-SIM card in the SIM tray and make sure the card is flush with the edges of the tray.
  3. Carefully make sure the SIM tray is inserted correctly, right side up, with the contact (gold part) of the SIM card facing the back side of the One. If you are using a Nano-SIM, please be aware that some adapters might damage the motherboard of the One, which is not covered by warranty. We highly recommend that you get a Micro-SIM card from your mobile operator.
  4. Make sure your SIM tray is fully inserted and flush with the side of your One.

I had the exact problem on my Oneplus One. I actually broke all but one of my pins in the sim slot. First I disassembled the phone so I could better see the sim slot. I bent the broken prongs up so they would better contact the sim card. Because they are now shorter I had to shorten the sim card by trimming the top of the sim card (the side that is closest to the outside of the phone). Lastly I used a small piece of double faced tape to keep the shorter sim card in place on the sim tray. It worked great. It may or may not work for you.

I put thin electrical tape in the SIM tray base to push the SIM card up to touch the damaged/bent contacts…… seems to have worked so far :-)

A couple prongs broke om mu galaxy s4 wherw cam i take for them to put new ones on

My iphone 5 have issues is that sim tray have 2 pins wihich is contact with each other how to create distance b/w them

The right way to do this is just desolder the part and replace it but it requires the right tools and experience. Cutting the sim tray open is not needed.

i used small soldering iron instead of hot air station within this case.

Best way to bring out your SIM Card adapter properly , Just pic a plastic stick like Guitar stick and cut it as it can be easily insert inside the Sim Card Slot. Put this Stick in between the sim card slot and adapter so that the gap of of adapter will be fulfilled and then pull out your Adapter easily. Its very simple try it before pulling directly… I was was learnt it after loosing my Xperia ZL :( So try this atleast once
