my volume and shift left button including left alt button just stopped working how can i fix this. could it be a software problem since i never upgraded to the latest mac software ?
Highly unlikely - (though you should run the most updated version of the OS when possible - an exception might be that an update breaks the functionality of a critical use application or hardware. It would be more likely that physical damage to the top case / keyboard has caused this issue. A possible test would be using a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. . . if that works fine it would eliminate software but confirm a hardware issue.
