Hi, I made a stupid error and dropped some of my pop drink on my dell laptop keyboard. How do you exactly disassemble the laptop and watch should I aim to take apart to clean based on what would be contaminated?

Hi, First do not turn on the laptop or attempt to turn it on as you can cause more damage than what is already there. Next disconnect the battery from the motherboard as soon as possible to minimize any more damage from occurring before further dis-assembling the laptop to ascertain the extent of the damage. Be aware that even though the laptop is turned off, the motherboard is still essentially “live” in various places until you disconnect the battery from the motherboard. The Power On/Off button is not a power isolating switch, so disconnect the battery as soon as you have access to it, to prevent any electrical problems if you slip while using any tools on the open laptop. Physical damage while using tools is another matter ;-) Here’s a link that describes what to do in the event of water coming into contact with electronics. Electronics Water Damage Here’s a link to the service manual for the laptop taken from this webpage. It describes the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to dis-assemble the laptop to access the various components, (scroll to p.81 to view the keyboard removal procedure). Depending on the amount of visible damage or even liquid still remaining will determine how far to dis-assemble it. Usually with liquid damaged keyboards when attempting to repair them you can cause more problems than what you had before you started and it is better to simply replace the keyboard. Search for Dell Inspiron 15 7579 keyboard to get results for suppliers. Hopefully this is of some help to get you started. Good luck with the repair.
