I had the sonos play 5 for two years, it was wonderful till last month, it has no sound at all. I called but sonos service said I have to pay about $380 to have it tested or repaired. well, I don’t think I will take it. so I am wondering that I may fix myself following some advise here. thanks. appreciate!

Hi, Since it seems to switch on and connect well with other devices but does have any volume when connected it may be that the problem is with the audio control board. This is speculation on my part because without a schematic diagram or service manual it would be difficult to know for sure. It could well be one of the other boards as well. I don’t think that the actual speakers are the problem. It would be very unusual for all the speakers to fail at the same time. You would expect some of them to work, e.g. mid range OK but no bass etc. Initially the best that I can advise is perhaps that you open the speaker and check if there is anything obviously untoward to be seen, such as burnt out or heat stressed components, loose connections etc. Here’s a link to the ifixit Sonos Play 5 Repair guides which may be of some help. You could also try contacting a reputable, professional electronics repair service, experienced in audio repairs and ask for a quote to see how they compare to Sonos.
