Dealers usually charge an arm and leg for minor stuff. I remember changing this on another car and it was really easy. The most difficult task is probably finding the filter itself.
Here is an answer courtesy of hemicuda on RepairPal: “the cabin filter is locate on the passenger side in the glove box. to get to it you must remove the shelf in the glove box by simply tugging it from the left side, then you will see at the back of the glove box a section that you can remove. once removed you will see a white compartment with a removable front, remove that and you’ll see the cabin filter.” As far as finding the filter, your local auto parts store should carry it. Call your local Autozone/Kragen/O’Reily/NAPA/etc. and tell them the part you’re looking for to see if they have it, or if they can order it.
For most vehicles, it is located behind your glove box. Remove everything from the glove box, then you should be able to gently force the glove box to unhinge and behind it will be some electrical wires as well as the filter you are looking for.
For 2007 thrugh 2012 Lexus 350 GS the cabin filter is also located in the glove compartment. Same instructions to repair as 350 ES.
On the 2009 ES350 does it matter if AC is in recirc mode or not? Thanks
I removed the glove box and replaced the cabin air filter, but now after putting it back together, my glove box falls all the way out whenever I open it. It doesn’t have a catch anymore to keep it from falling completely down. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong with the side pins?
