So I have an Asus Transformer Book with a broken charge port (micro usb) and already have a replacement in hand for it. However when I try to desolder it will not budge or even melt the solder. Keep in mind that I do not have a desolder pump or wick/braid. But my question since I’m a novice when it comes to soldering is, is this micro usb port soldered on in such a way that requires desoldering braid or a pump, or both?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Madd Scientist no magic here:-). You will need flux and yes desoldering braid will make it a lot easier. No pump needed. Ensure that your soldering iron is hot enough. Clean the iron, apply some flux to the tip and then melt some solder on the soldering tip. Apply some flux to the contacts you are desoldering then heat those up with the soldering iron and use the braid in between. Once it is unsoldered clean the pads with flux and braid. Careful here, not hot enough and you will rip the pads of with the connector since they are still tacked together. To hot and you burn the pads of the circuit board. So a bit of practice will go a long way.
