Our Panasonic DVD player will not play discs. The error message is H02, and this website states that it is “a spindle motor malfunctioning.” Can it be fixed? Thanks! Kim

Kim, it is a common fault with this model. You will have to do it in stages. Remove the drive as shown on on here. then first you remove the terminal PCB by unscrewing the screws, then desolder the solder connection and remove the connectors.

Next you remove the clamp plate unit by spreading the the stopper with your hand, slide the tabs and remove the clamp plate unit.

Next lift the tray.

Lift the traverse block while spreading the hook of the mechanical chassis unit. Disengage the tabs from the holes of the mechanical chassis unit.

Disengage the tabs from the traverse gear. remove the traverse gear B and C.

Remove the optical pickup unit by unscrewing the screws. remove the spring holders and the springs. Pull out the drive shaft and guide shaft.

Disassemble the Middle chassis by removing the holder pins and remove the tab. It lifts while pulling it in the direction of the arrow in the image.

Next remove the traverse gear A in the image.

Remove the floating rubbers. This will now give you access to the spindle motor unit.

The spindle motor part number as RXQ0745B. hope this helps, good luck.

If you have a junk player you can probably take the spindle motor out and use it as a replacement. Make sure the platter is the same height. “That’s the plastic disc mounted on the shaft of the motor. You’ll also need a screwdriver for those 2 very small screws that hold the motor in place and a soldering iron. Make sure you solder the red & black wires back in the right places otherwise the motor will run backwards.
