Hello all! I have recently bought a lot of samsung smartphones on eBay. They are all Live demo Units. I am aware that there is no baseband in this phone and no IMEI assigned to them so it will never be able to connect to a cellular network but im getting really annoyed with the live demo software and would like to know how to remove it. I would flash with Odin but im on a MacBook Pro so thats not an option. The phones are: Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge (SM-G925x) Samsung Galaxy s6 (SM-G920x) and… Samsung Galaxy s8 (SM-G950-XU) Thanks! Also don’t bother saying return it because the screen of the s8 is worth the same that I paid for all of these. ($200 CAD)
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f453/g92… Check post #10. You may be out of luck on the demo unit models as the firmwares probably have hard coded live demo app installation even after factory resetting / wiping the phone.
you know what all your answers are wrong. also checked on other forums the 5444 and m729 is only use to access retail mode app in order to set ldus settings and also to register the store where the ldu is being setup.. i have a friend from samsung and good thing he’s from hhp fieldforce he taught me how to disable or freeze the retail mode inorder for user to use the ldus but take note you can only use it like tab you can download games and store files like ordinary tab or ipad without sim. so here it is you need the 5444 and m729 to open retail mode app on the retail mode app on the upper part you will see the “3 dots” like settings drop down you’ll see 3 items there. now go backhere is the trick. on the lower part right at the middle of your screen just tap your screen there 9 times. dont worry at your 6 tap youll see a notif to click 3 more 2 more 1 more ..then voala!! go back to the 3 dots on the upper right part open it and youll see now 4 items the last item will be deactivate retail mode, tap deactivate then it will turn to activate meaning its already deactivated now to fully use the phone you’ll see also under option the lock/unlock auto factory reset. you need to turn it off so that your phone will not factory reset every day during 9am gmt lols.. —-owkey hope this one will help you. been using s8+ ldu for a year now. this one applies to s8 to note 9. and to s7 and lower i hope you will find the retail mode global neutralizer i guess the file is being leaked ol where in you download the apk file install it and it will corrupt the retail mode app and automatically freeze the retail system that s been hard coded into the ldus. i dont have the file myself but my friend does since he is using s6+ ldu before..
This may not help but here are the passwords for retail mode. passwords - 5444 and M729Q16K8546.
You can remove Retail option in this phone but can’t use sim, for this sim issue you have to use extra device …which is called Gmate Smart
You can still flash. Call on Heimdall, and tell him to activate the bridge. Use Heimdall instead of Odin. Here is a tutorial. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr…
Here is a iFixit thread on disabling Retail Mode. How to remove retail mode? I’m not sure if its in this thread, but I’ve read somewhere even though you can remove the demo software, the phones are neutered so they can’t make calls.
^ YES! Kinda jerkish to give us this trick (and of course this is the only place on the web I’ve found that this is posted) like finding the hidden deactivate button … and then not giving us the pw. RAWWWWWRRRRRRR! Regardless, if you disable factory reset using the aforementioned passwords, delete the hidden files, go back to main menu and disable content protection then go to settings/apps/special access (under the menu at top right)/ device administrators you can can uncheck the retail mode app and deactivate that way. I also denied it permission under apps that can change system settings just for good measure. Get Package Disabler Pro (Samsung) in play store and disable both retail mode apps (samsung and retailmode), Discover S8+ and anything knox related (also just for good measure). Easy. I dunno, but after 24 hours or so it seems to be fairly retail mode free, and I didnt touch Odin. With the retail mode service gone, i cqn charge past 70%, power saving mode and airplane mode work fine, obviously cell radio/SIM reader isnt even in the phone so i cant make calls, and factory reset is still missing, but why would I wanna go thru all that again anyways? I just got a $50 S8+ with some minimal tweaks. I’d say thats pretty rad.
try this tut; https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-…
Password for phones from Sam’s Club is “Walton”. It works, and although I understand I can’t use cellular, this is becoming less of an issue everyday, as I live in a city and everywhere there are hotspots and many apps to take advantage if free WiFi calling and texting. …..BUT…The software demo keeps coming back intrusively. And it won’t update the security policy so that popup is a constant problem. On the good side, the phone was a demo that I bought off a dude on the street, for a very reasonable price. I’m sure he came on it through honest means because he told me so repeatedly.
I have a j36 and booting in safe mode, I then sign into play store to download apps that won’t work in safe mode yet, and enter settings to disable any thing Samsung with storage permission .also I force stop/ disable Knox and retail agent such and such apps, and make a lock pattern reboot to normal for 1 second and remove battery quicklike so retail demo can’t start yet,(@ the lock pattern screen, and reboot again to safe mode enter my lock pattern , then amazing!?! Still signed on to play store & in app folder are icons minus the graphics what I then does my self th courtesy of moving to home screens and Bing bang boom the app works , any app . I don’t use SIM but my apps work I stay signed in and no screen saver every minute better than I’ve heard of any one else yet cuz the pswrd don’t work for me . And personally on a Rogers phone I put in a telus sim , it asks for a network unlock code, It’ll probably accept chatr
I have a Sumsung Galaxy s7 Edge which is a “live Demo Unit" I have factory restored the retail firmware and it is free of any reference or behavior of the demo unit. Before you do anything, make sure you have backed up your device to google cloud, smart switch, or Samsung Keis. Also make a note of the IMEI number and Serial Number if you want to flash a working model. Sometimes these can be erased and will need to be flashed afterwards, although I have only encountered one such occasion this was needed from the dozens of phones I have updated firmware on. It is relatively easy to restore the device to factory retail state by following the following instructions:
- Start the device in Android Recovery Mode
- Wipe cache partition, then,
- select Wipe data / Factory reset
- power off device (If you fail to follow steps 1-3 before doing step 4 onward, the process may not be effective)
- Go to https://www.sammobile.com, find the exact model you have and download the latest firmware for your country. Any Carrier version. Download and unpack zip file. Make sure it is the exact model. If you cant find it, You can be safe using a version that has the “F” immediately after the model. eg: SM-G935FXXU2EREM where F is designated as “Global”.
- Download Odin software, install it, and run the program.
- select each of the BL, AP, CP, and CSC options one at a time from the firmware folder. The AP file could take a while to load depending on your computer configuration, so please be patient. Do not select the CSC HOME option. If you do select the CSC HOME option you will have to flash the device again from step 1 because all your apps and user preferences will not be affected and that means many demo features will not be removed.
- Start phone in Download mode. Connect cable (It is very important that you make sure it is the original Samsung Cable), then press the volume up key to start Download Mode. (If all is correctly done, the Odin log window should show device is added).
- Click Start in Odin and wait for the process to finish. This will take a while. If successful the box in the top left should go Green and say Pass.
- disconnect phone from cable before restart completes. If the device doesn’t restart correctly, reboot the device. It should be working just fine. Of course it is now a fresh new system and will need either a restore of your device from google backup to reinstate your apps etc, or setup from scratch. Everything should work as a new device out of the box with the exception of the cellular service. I use mine as a MINI tablet. works great around town on hot spots for Google, Google Maps, Skype, Whats App, Facebook messenger etc..
You could try jodin/Heimdall, a Java based version of Odin for Mac and Linux, though my experience with it was that it hasn’t been updated to reflect the current version of Odin and it never worked properly for me. Probably it would be better to just run Odin for Windows through VirtualBox or parallels desktop, that’s been my preferred solution on any reasonably powerful Mac or Linux computer. You just have to make sure USB is configured properly in the virtual machine, there’s tutorials about it on the virtual box website, and I’m sure parallels explains the process with that solution on their site too.
